The perfect place to start your Feather Fan Dancing journey at The Burlesque Studio! Across six weeks we will explore the foundations of fan dancing. You'll learn about the history of fan dancing in Burlesque and how to gracefully hold and manipulate feather fans, perfect your flow and master new tricks. Each week you'll build on your skills with new choreography and tricks to add to your fan dancing repertoire. With Burlesque at the core of the course,  you will learn how to use the fans to enhance the art of tease, adding vintage glamour and intrigue to any Burlesque performance.

At the end of six weeks you will be invited to The Burlesque Studio's end of term party, where all classes are invited to perform routines for each other and participate in a class photoshoot!
*The performance and photoshoot are optional, you can also just come along for fun!

What you will learn

Your Course

1

Introduction

Welcome to Feather Fan Dancing Week One! Here you will meet the rest of the class. We will cover everything you need as a foundation for the term, and focus on classic fan dance poses.

2

Grip & Flow

Stepping into Week Two we will be focusing on mastering our grip and flow. Through beautiful choreography you will learn how to use your grip to get the feathers to float soft and elegant.

3

Tricks Part One

Now that you've had an introduction, it's time to get those fans moving! Through choreography you will start learning fan dancing tricks and moves to build on your skillset.

4

Tricks Part Two

Continuing on from last week it's time to learn even more tricks! Through choreography you will learn even more fan dancing tricks and moves to build on your fan dancing skillset.

5

Grip Changes

Week Five brings us to grip changes. Here we will explore how changing our grip allows us to manipulate the feathers even further, creating new shapes and transitions.

6

Burlesque Fans

It's now time to combine what we've been learning into a glamorous Burlesque routine. Here we will be focusing on reveals with the fans, and the tease of hiding behind feathers.

Information

WHAT TO BRING?
Ostrich feather fans and all props required are provided. Don't forget your water bottle!

WHAT TO WEAR?
Something comfortable that makes you feel cute! Leggings, bike shorts with a fitted tank top or t-shirt are great choices. You might even consider a leotard or bodysuit.

WHICH SHOES?
Classes will be taught in heels but you are welcome to dance barefoot, in sneakers, socks or jazz flats. Whatever feels comfortable for you. For heels we recommend a ballroom dance or chorus style heel, but any heel with a strap that you feel comfortable moving in will work.

DO I NEED TO HAVE EXPERIENCE?
No! This class is suitable for absolute beginners to feather fan dancing. Some students may find their benefit from doing a Classic Burlesque class ahead of this course, however it's not a requirement. It would also suit people who have a little bit of experience in feather fans who are looking to refine their technique.

WILL WE PERFORM?
Our studio does not currently present showcases. You will be invited to perform with the class at the end of term class party in the studio, but it is not a requirement to participate. This class does not include any Burlesque striptease reveals other than panel skirts.
