Accessibility Statement

Physical Accessibility

  • Building Access: The studio is located in a warehouse complex at Warehouse #64. We are encouraged to park on Cranwell street, however students with access requirements are welcome to drive right up to the warehouse door. Parking can be reserved in this area by notifying us, we can reserve one of the studios allocated carparks. Entry into the Burlesque Studio is via large door, or roller door access is also available upon request.

  • Flooring: There are no stairs upon entry or in any student areas. All areas accessed by students are at ground level. The dance floor area is laminate floor boarding. The rest of the studio spaces are concrete. There is a very small lip up to the dance floor level where the floorboards meet the concrete.

  • Bathrooms: We have a large bathroom which includes an open shower, basin and toilet in the one large space. Although the space is large, please note we currently don't have handrails installed. Handrails are being installed as soon as possible. The basin is open underneath suitable for wheelchair access.

  • Kitchen: There is a small kitchen area at the back of the waiting area that is behind drapes and only has approximately 60cm of access in front of the basin. However this is often not used by students. If a student needs to fill their water bottle it can be done via the bathroom or a teacher can provide access to the kitchen area by opening the drapes upon request.

Classroom Environment

  • Space: When entering the warehouse there is a small waiting area that leads into the main dance space. The dance studio space is approximately 8.5 metres wide and 4.5 metres deep. There are large mirrors spanning the far wall of the room. There is a black drape that runs along the back of the room. During classes there is a display with a couch, lamp and garment rack at the very end of the room. This does not obstruct the dance floor space.

  • Seating: There is a couch in the studio space and multiple cabaret chairs that are available for seating at any time during class.

  • Environment: Classes are taught with students facing a mirror. Music plays through a PA system and it can sometimes be loud in classes when there is a teacher and students talking as well as music. The space has tall ceilings that can sometimes cause an echo effect. During the day the space is filled with natural light, in the evening the space has coloured lights on the drapes and a warehouse white light illuminates the dancefloor overhead.

Support

  • Companions: If you will be attending with a companion please notify us so we can let our teacher know. Companions are absolutely welcome to join in on the class upon request.

  • Adaptations: Choreography can be adapted to suit all skill levels and abilities. Please chat with us to discuss how we can ensure our classes can be enjoyed by all, our teachers are always happy to tailor your experience.

The Burlesque Studio hopes to provide a welcoming environment for all students, regardless of their background, identity, or ability. We absolutely encourage students to provide us with feedback or request additional accommodations.
