The perfect place to start your Burlesque journey at The Burlesque Studio! Across six weeks we will explore the foundations of Burlesque vintage tease, and you will learn iconic moves to add to your Classic Burlesque repertoire. You will shimmy, bump and grind, chair dance and work with props and costume pieces such as feather boas, stockings, robes and gloves. You will also learn new Classic Burlesque choreography every week!

At the end of six weeks you will be invited to The Burlesque Studio's end of term party, where all classes are invited to perform routines for each other and participate in a class photoshoot!

*The performance and photoshoot are optional, you can also just come along for fun!

What you will learn

Your Course

1

Introduction

Welcome to Classic Burlesque! Here you will meet the rest of the class. We will cover everything you need as a foundation for the term. Burlesque posture, showgirl walks and an introduction to what Classic Burlesque means.

2

The Shimmy

Stepping into week two we will cover the art of the Burlesque Shimmy! One of the most iconic Burlesque moves, we will focus on technique, rhythm and attitude as we get those sassy shoulders moving.

3

Bump and Grind

Now that you've had an introduction, it's time to get our hips moving. The "Bump" and "Grind" are key dance moves that are deeply rooted in Burlesque history - a signature element in pretty much any classic routine!

4

Glove Peels & Reveals

It's week four and time for our Glove Peels class. Through a cheeky routine we will learn the classic technique of slowly and seductively removing gloves, and how to start building suspense through the art of tease.

5

Chair & Stockings

Week five brings us to our chair and stockings class, where we focus on how to use props and costume pieces to enhance our tease. We will learn sultry chair choreography combined with the classic burlesque stocking peel.

6

Tease Choreography

It's now time to combine everything we have been learning over the past five weeks into a fabulous Classic Burlesque routine, bringing us to the end of our course. Congratulations! Champagne, anyone?

Class Information

WHAT TO BRING?
On week five you're invited to bring a pair of stockings to learn stocking peels. All other costume pieces and props required are provided. Don't forget your water bottle!

WHAT TO WEAR?
Something comfortable that makes you feel cute! Leggings, bike shorts with a fitted tank top or t-shirt are great choices. You might even consider a leotard or bodysuit.

WHICH SHOES?
Classes will be taught in heels but you are welcome to dance barefoot, in sneakers, socks or jazz flats. Whatever feels comfortable for you. For heels we recommend a ballroom dance or chorus style heel, but any heel with a strap that you feel comfortable moving in will work.

DO I NEED TO HAVE EXPERIENCE?

No! This class is suitable for absolute beginners. It would also suit people who have attended a burlesque workshop or course and are looking to further develop their classic techniques.

WILL WE PERFORM?
Our studio does not currently present showcases. You may be invited to perform with the class at the end of term class party, but it is not a requirement to participate. This class does not include any Burlesque striptease reveals other than panel skirts, stockings and gloves.
