Take a seat... it's time to Chair Dance at The Burlesque Studio! Across eight weeks we will explore the art of chair dancing, and how this iconic prop can enhance your Burlesque routines. You'll learn how to use a cabaret chair in your choreography to add sass, drama and intrigue to your performance. Each week you'll build on your skills with new choreography and techniques, adding to your chair dance repertoire. The course will also cover Classic Burlesque dance moves such as bump and grind, shimmies and floor work, incorporating the use of costume pieces such as stockings and bowler hats.
At the end of eight weeks you will be invited to The Burlesque Studio's end of term party, where all classes are invited to perform routines for each other and participate in a class photoshoot!
*The performance and photoshoot are optional, you can also just come along for fun!

Information
WHAT TO BRING?
Students are required bring a pair of stockings from Week 5 onwards. For floorwork it's also recommended to wear fabric kneepads. These are not required for the first session, your teacher will be able to guide you through what you need at the start of the term. There will be floor based warm ups so students are encouraged to bring along a yoga mat. Cabaret chairs and all other props are provided. Don't forget your water bottle!
WHAT TO WEAR?
Something comfortable that makes you feel cute! Leggings, bike shorts with a fitted tank top or t-shirt are great choices. You might even consider a leotard or bodysuit.
WHICH SHOES?
Classes will be taught in heels but you are welcome to dance barefoot, in sneakers, socks or jazz flats. Whatever feels comfortable for you. For heels we recommend a ballroom dance or chorus style heel, but any heel with a strap that you feel comfortable moving in will work.
DO I NEED TO HAVE EXPERIENCE?
Some students may find they benefit from doing a Classic Burlesque class ahead of this course, however it's not a requirement. It best suits people who have a little bit of experience in burlesque, dance or other performance art who are looking to refine their technique.
DO I NEED TO BE FLEXIBLE?
The choreography does not require splits or advanced acro-style chair tricks, making it adaptable to students with varying degrees of flexibility. The focus is on creating confident movements that can be adapted and enjoyed by everyone, regardless of their flexibility level.
WILL WE PERFORM?
Our studio does not currently present showcases. You will be invited to perform with the class at the end of term class party in the studio, but it is not a requirement to participate. This class does not include any Burlesque striptease reveals other than stockings.
